Questions

Have questions? Maybe you'll find your answer here.

Why do they call it shave ice?

In the early 1900's, Japanese immigrants brought their tradition of shave ice to the islands where they made it for plantation workers.  From there, the love of shave ice spread across the islands.  And don't you dare call it "shaved" ice.  It's been "shave" ice since those early days in the Hawaiian Pidgin language and it always will be.

What is Dole Whip?

Pineapple soft serve that we serve a few different ways - in a cup/bowl, a sandwich with sugar cookies, and a float with sprite.

Signature Oahu Drink Menu

These are some of our favorite places on Oahu, so we names some drinks after them.

Sandy Beach Sunrise

Sandy Beach is on the east side just around the corner from Koko Head.  Known for it's powerful shore break and incredible morning views.

Koko Head Colada

Koko Head is one of the most iconic hikes on Oahu, famous for it's steep railway trail. It also has amazing sunrise views...if you can get up there early enough.

Kailua Bay Breeze

Kailua Bay was one of our favorite places to swim when you wanted a relaxing beach day. Never big waves, but you could always check out some wind-surfers.

La'ie Paradise

La'ie has a special place in our family's hearts.

Da Big Splash

Named after Da Big Rock at Waimea Bay. Summer is the best time to jump, but you'll probably see people there throughout the year. If you get there early enough, you might even see some dolphins circling the bay.

Wet 'n Wild-Berry

Named after one of the last Wet 'n Wild waterparks still on Oahu. We bought season passes when we first moved to Honolulu and after a few visits, our daughter Emery met her soon-to-be best friend, Eliana.  Because of wet 'n wild, we now have some of our dearest friends to visit, instead of just going for vacation.

Pearl City Punch

Obviously named after Pearl City, but this inside joke with a mispronunciation of King Kamehameha. Uncle Burt taught us how to pronounce Pearl City. Clue...it's Pearl City.

Waikiki Sunset

If you haven't heard of Waikiki, I don't know what to tell you, but you should go. Waikiki has so much to do and see. If you aren't too chicken, try jumping off the Waikiki wall with some of the local keiki.

Manoa Milk Tea

Names after one of Hawiia's famous waterfall hikes, Manoa Falls. Not a difficult hike, but beautiful rainforest.

Banzai Brew

This is where you want to go to see some amazing surfing. You might even see some surfers on tour. The swells are legendary. Just go. Sit on the beach and watch.

Vocabulary

Some words on our menus can be confusing. It's hard to explain on here how everything is pronounced, but at least we can tell you what everything means. Just try your best to pronounce it and we'll help you out.

Açaí

15

A Brazilian fruit, earthy & tropical tasting cross between raspberries and blackberries with a hint of cacao.

Keiki

22

Kid or child in Hawaiian - keiki shave ice would be a kid's size.

Poké

Raw tuna - but we like to call it a poké bowl even if it doesn't have the tuna.
